Natural Conception
There are many ways the Lord has given us to assess our fertility, and we can take notice of those indications in order to increase the possibility of pregnancy. The following are some very basic indicators of fertility:
- Cervical Mucous – If you haven’t already, start paying attention to
the nature of your cervical mucous (discharge) throughout your menstrual cycle. In order for the seed to travel to the egg, the mucous needs to be thin enough for easy swimming! You will notice around the middle of your cycle (assuming your cycles are normal) that your cervical mucous becomes more of a liquid. This is a good sign that you are fertile.
- Saliva/cervical mucous testing – A little secret that is becoming
more well known. You can purchase a personal ovulation microscope, which analyzes your saliva upon drying. When a woman is about to ovulate, there will be a ferning pattern to her dried saliva and/or cervical mucous that can be seen under a simple microscope. Fertility-Focus is a company that makes a small microscope that looks like a tube of lipstick that you can keep in your purse and track your fertility daily. The cost is about 25.00- 30.00 dollars.
- Libido – It isn’t surprising to note that a woman might have an
increase in libido before she ovulates. Pay attention to your libido in combination with these other indications to see if there is a change.
- Basal Body Temperature – If your cycles are normal, then you
might be able to use this method to predict ovulation. Track your basal body temperature, the temperature you have in the morning prior to becoming active, with a basal thermometer. You will notice a slight increase in temperature, then a sudden drop followed by an increase in temperature that should last the rest of your cycle. It is when the sudden drop happens that you should be fertile.
- Urine Test – You can purchase ovulation predictor tests that test
your urine for a hormone that signals fertility. These can be quite pricey; however, I have seen them in abundance at the dollar store!
